The F Word

Today I will talk about a show that has recently caught my interest! It is called The F Word, or, in the US, Gordon Ramsay's F Word.


So I had known the chef of Hell's Kitchen was pretty popular, but I never really knew why. When I get home from work not a lot is on usually, so I had been watching BBC America. They soon added Kitchen Nightmares to the lineup in the afternoon, and that was my first real introduction to Gordon Ramsay. It's a show where he goes to failing restaurants to help evaluate what the problem is and try to turn them around.

He's hilarious! Not only does he seem to really know what he's doing, but his playful nature and potty mouth make it good. He curses like a sailor and loves to joke around, but he also knows when to get serious and work. I love it.

A few weeks ago, they started to show The F Word right before Kitchen Nightmares. Ramsay invites normal people to try and cook for 50 people at The F Word restaurant, and the customers have the right not to pay for the course if they aren't happy. They must be damn hard to please because of all the times I've caught it, yesterday's starters were the only ones I've seen all 50 people pay for D:

More than that, though, there are regular side features. It seems Gordon tries raising his own livestock to see what it's like from animal to plate. He also has celebrities come in and try to beat him in little cooking challenges for blind panels, as well as random other food related things. It really is interesting, and all of his dishes are things simple enough to make at home.

I'm learning a lot about cooking and being entertained in the process!

Not to mention the theme song is awesome.

And something about Gordon really is attractive to me *shot*

Super conservative types drive me insane

iPhone OS 3.0

I'm a total geek, as my good friends all know. I love things from neat gadgets and computers to physics. I own an iPhone 3G (after an agonizing wait for my contract to run up so I could purchase it at the upgrade price). Of course, as much as I love my phone, there are a few things lacking. That's why I was so happy to read that yesterday, Apple announced the release of iPhone OS 3.0 this summer.

Long awaited features will include copy/paste, MMS messaging, and a functional push notification service. They showed a demo of the app that meebo is developing to show how the push will be useful, and man, I look forward to it. The one thing I really hope that it will be able to do is resize the photos for sending in MMS. Right now, if you email a photo, it comes out at a huge 800x600 resolution. I want to be able to send photos that are 320x240, a typical cellular image size.

Even if it doesn't, this update will be a massive improvement for an already cool product. Keep it up, Apple!

Wut?

So I'm still not 100% sure what I'll be posting here, but I'll try to make it something worthwhile.

Since I'm here, I'll first talk about a band I've loved since they formed: DIS★Marionette



Being as I was a fan of the vocalist, Gene, from his prior band, SectMateria (now just SectMa), it was natural that I kind of followed them over. So far I've been very impressed by their sound. Their first single, 【PREY】, was quite good and gave them a unique sound that wasn't too poppy as some of the newer bands tend to be. They followed this up with 『イノセント・スノウ』, which was a bit weaker in my opinion, but had an intro section that I absolutely love. In April they'll be releasing their first mini-album, the first two songs plus 5 more new ones, and I can't wait to hear it. I hope they'll continue on making good music.

By the way, their producer is Kikasa, formerly of Due le Quarts and Shelly Trip Realize. He owns Tuxedo Productions, a Tokyo based indies label. I happen to be a fan of his too :D
